Overview
VPA provides tax advisory to individuals and companies connected to Portugal, including expatriates and non-residents. As a Lisbon law firm with an office in Rio de Janeiro, we combine Portuguese and international perspectives and work alongside your accountant.

Frequently asked questions
Is the NHR still available?
Not for new applicants: the NHR was closed and replaced by the IFICI regime. Those already registered generally keep their benefits for the remaining period. We confirm your situation.
What is IFICI?
It is the tax incentive for scientific research and innovation, the successor to the NHR, offering a preferential rate on qualifying income for people who become tax resident and carry out qualifying activities.
Do I need a lawyer or an accountant?
The two roles complement each other: the lawyer handles the framework and the risk, the accountant the execution. VPA works alongside your accountant.
How does tax residency work when moving to Portugal?
Tax residency determines where your worldwide income is taxed and interacts with double-taxation treaties. We plan the move to avoid surprises.
